Fox moving ahead with live-action DBZ and Fantastic Voyage remake

The Montreal Gazette picks up the most frightening news of the weekend: not only is anime staple Dragon Ball Z being turned into a live-action production, but there's a Roland Emmerich helmed Fantastic Voyage coming down the line too. Each, the Gazette reports, has a budget of–at least–$100 million. While there is no known start date, all–including Another Night in the Museum–will wrap by July 2008.
DBZ is based on the manga by Akira Toriyama following Son Goku and friends who battle aliens, androids and cartoonishly fiendish villains with martial arts and energy blasts. There were 291 episodes, 13 movies and at least one spin-off series, but the live-action film will undoubtedly focus on the first season, the Saiyan Saga. Fantastic Voyage follows the basic 1966 plot: group of scientists shrink themselves to operate on a terminal patient, but suspect a traitor once their equipment begins failing. Another Night in the Museum is the sequel to A Night at the Museum. |
